Super Visa for parents or grandparents

You can spend up to five years at a time visiting your children or grandchildren with a Super Visa. This visa allows for multiple entries for up to ten years. The length of your stay will be confirmed by a border services officer when you enter Canada. A super visa has conditions, to qualify, you must fulfil every requirement. Apply for a visitor visa if your intended stay will be six months or less.

To be eligible for Super Visa you must,

  • Be a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
  • A signed letter from your child or grandchild inviting you to visit Canada that includes a promise of financial support for the length of your visit along with information and the number of people who will be living in their home, and a copy of the person’s citizenship or Permanent Residence card.
  • Have proof of private health insurance from a Canadian insurance provider. This medical insurance must be valid for a minimum of one year after the day you plan to enter Canada, pay for your medical expenses, hospital stays, return travel and provide for at least $100,000 in emergency coverage.
  • Submit a Super Visa application from outside of Canada.
  • Take an immigration medical examination.
