Visitor Visa
A temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is another name for a visitor visa. Once you have a visitor visa you are allowed to enter Canada. If a border services officer does not stamp your passport, you are allowed to stay in Canada for a period of six months. If a border services agent has stamped your passport, you must depart Canada by the date written on the stamp.
To get a visitor visa you must meet some basic requirements:
- Have a passport or valid travel document.
- Be in good health (you may need a medical exam to prove your health).
- No criminal record or convictions.
- Strong financial and family ties and ability to prove to an immigration officer that your ties, such as a family, job, home or financial assets will take you back to your home country.
- Have sufficient funds for your stay (the amount of money you will need depends on how long you will stay and if you will stay in a hotel, or with friends or relatives).
- Depending on the purpose of your visit you might need a letter of invitation from a family or friend living in Canada.
You can apply for a visitor record from within Canada if you are in the country with a visitor visa and want to extend your stay.
